Snuggie Pub Crawl

The "As Seen On TV" blanket with holes for head and arms known as The Snuggie is so uncool. So uncool that you know you secretly want one! Well Snuggie owners can come out of the closet this friday in San Diego for the Snuggie Pub Crawl. I can honestly say that I wish that I could join this coziest of all pub crawls, but alas my Snuggie is at the cleaners being revived from a close encounter with…

Beer for President

It happens every election cycle. The stage is just too big for there not to be some that cash in on a timely marketed election-based product. Not that there's anything wrong with that! What could be more American!?

The beer industry being no exception has put forth a few frosty selections this fall aimed at the politically minded "Joe Six Pack" or "Joe Pint Glass".

The folks at Half Moon Bay Brewing Company located in Pillar Point… Continue

Clam Chowder Craving

Not that anyone should care, but, I have a tremendous craving for clam chowder...right now! It's only 9 am as I write this which may seem a bit early in the day to be craving such a meal, but I often eat breakfast for dinner, so I'll just go with it.

When I say clam chowder, I mean the good stuff. The kind that usually comes accompanied by the sound and smell of fishing boats, and within sight of a pier.

I am fortunate to have eaten at some of the best on both coasts.… Continue

Pirtle Winery Update and a delicious Pumpkin Bread Recipe

The following is reprinted from the Pirtle Winery email Newsletter

It's October 15th already and the leaves are changing. We just finished

our last press load of grapes three days ago. This ripening season was

very late, probably due to a wet spring and early summer. The upside is

the excellent grape quality aided by the late, cool harvest conditions.

Our grape picker party was very well received (September 20th). There

was a lot of everything to… Continue

Judging a Book By It's Cover or a Wine By It's Label

I will be the first to admit that I do in fact judge a book by it's cover. Of course there are other criteria my brain uses to choose my next read, such as the genre, author, reviews, and, well... shelf placement (I am not a huge fan of kneeling), but in the end, the determining factor usually boils down to the cover, and my emotional response to it which either compels me put it down or put it under my arm for a trip to the register.

I feel the same about wine. Oh, yes, I… Continue

Hello Brian,
Regarding taste and style, thanks for the compliment. I've finally reached a stage in my life where most of my shirts have permanent purplish blotches here and there - instead of the baby and toddler gnarl that previously held center stage! ; )
