Miracle Fruit

We had our first sneak peek tasting of Miracle Fruit the other night and had tons of fun trying all kinds of normal and not so normal fare with it. Stephen Dennison, a fantastic and edgy mixologist and chef here in Louisville was in attendance and we had a great time working through our tasting and taking notes. We hope to actually create a dinner around some of our findings and expand the tasting when we hold our public "taste tripping" party on November 21 at Derby City Espresso. Comment by Jo on November 14, 2008 at 1:21pm: Miracle Fruit is a berry that originated in West Africa I believe. You can purchase either the berries or the tablets online at numerous sites, prices do vary though, so shopping around is recommended. The berry has a glucosamate that negates/numbs the bitter and sour taste buds and enhances natural sugars - so a lemon tastes like lemonade or lemon meringue pie. The effect can last for 30 min to two hours. I've also read that it's used as a diet aid in Asia since you can eat vegetable and fruits that you may not eat and it satisfies your 'sweet' cravings.
